Acacia catechu merupakan tumbuhan berbentuk pohon dari famili Fabaceae (suku polong-polongan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis kering. Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan black cutch. Nama ilmiah Acacia catechu pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Carl Linnaeus the Younger pada tahun 1806.
