Buta-buta adalah salah satu spesies tumbuhan berbentuk pohon dari famili Euphorbiaceae (suku kastuba-kastubaan). Tumbuhan yang dikenal dengan nama ilmiah Excoecaria agallocha ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis basah dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari kawasan Asia tropis dan subtropis hingga Pasifik barat. Nama ilmiah Excoecaria agallocha diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Carolus Linnaeus pada tahun 1759.
