Ruta graveolens merupakan tumbuhan perdu kecil dari famili Rutaceae (suku jeruk-jerukan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim sedang dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Semenanjung Balkan utara hingga Krym. Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan common rue. Nama ilmiah Ruta graveolens diperkenalkan oleh Carolus Linnaeus pada tahun 1753.
