Duri tentong merupakan tumbuhan sukulen berbentuk perdu atau pohon dari famili Cactaceae (suku kaktus-kaktusan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis kering. Nama ilmiah Opuntia elatior diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Philip Miller pada tahun 1768.
