Acanthosicyos horridus merupakan tumbuhan berbentuk perdu dari famili Cucurbitaceae (suku labu-labuan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma gurun pasir atau sabana kering dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Angola barat daya hingga Provinsi Cape sisi barat laut. Nama ilmiah Acanthosicyos horridus pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Friedrich Welwitsch pada tahun 1867.
