Alchornea latifolia merupakan tumbuhan berbentuk pohon dari famili Euphorbiaceae (suku kastuba-kastubaan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis basah dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Meksiko hingga kawasan tropis Amerika. Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan achiotillo. Nama ilmiah Alchornea latifolia pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Olof Peter Swartz pada tahun 1788.
