Alnus glutinosa merupakan tumbuhan berbentuk pohon dari famili Betulaceae. Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim sedang dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Eropa hingga Siberia barat dan Iran. Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan european alder. Nama ilmiah Alnus glutinosa pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Joseph Gaertner pada tahun 1790.
