artocarpus bahasa Yunani: artos = roti, karpos = buah
Artocarpus hirsutus merupakan tumbuhan berbentuk pohon dari famili Moraceae (suku ara-araan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis basah di wilayah India barat daya, Sri Lanka barat. Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan hirsute artocarpus. Nama ilmiah Artocarpus hirsutus diperkenalkan oleh Jean-Baptiste Lamarck pada tahun 1789.
