Astragalus asper merupakan tumbuhan menahun dari famili Fabaceae (suku polong-polongan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim sedang dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Eropa timur-tengah hingga Kaukasia utara. Nama ilmiah Astragalus asper pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Nikolaus Joseph von Jacquin pada tahun 1781.
