Attalea cohune merupakan tumbuhan berbentuk perdu atau pohon dari famili Arecaceae (suku pinang-pinangan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis basah dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Meksiko selatan, Honduras, hingga Kolombia (Magdalena valley). Nama ilmiah Attalea cohune pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Carl Friedrich Philipp von Martius pada tahun 1844.
