Attalea funifera merupakan tumbuhan berbentuk perdu atau pohon dari famili Arecaceae (suku pinang-pinangan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis kering dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Brazil (Alagoas hingga Bahia). Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan bahia piassaba palm. Nama ilmiah Attalea funifera pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Carl Friedrich Philipp von Martius pada tahun 1826.
