Avena macrostachya merupakan tumbuhan menahun dari famili Poaceae (suku rumput-rumputan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim dingin (subalpin atau subarktik) di wilayah Aljazair timur laut. Nama ilmiah Avena macrostachya diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Benedict Balansa pada tahun 1855.
