Rumput signal merupakan tumbuhan menahun dari famili Poaceae (suku rumput-rumputan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis kering. Nama ilmiah Brachiaria decumbens diperkenalkan oleh Otto Stapf pada tahun 1919. Nama ini merupakan sinonim dari Urochloa eminii.
