Aster adalah salah satu spesies tumbuhan semusim dari famili Asteraceae (suku aster-asteran). Tumbuhan yang dikenal dengan nama ilmiah Callistephus chinensis ini berasal dari bioma beriklim sedang dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Rusia Timur Jauh selatan hingga China. Nama ilmiah Callistephus chinensis diperkenalkan oleh Christian Gottfried Daniel Nees von Esenbeck pada tahun 1832.
