Canavalia lineata merupakan tumbuhan semak dari famili Fabaceae (suku polong-polongan). Spesies ini memiliki kebiasaan tumbuh merambat. Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis basah di kawasan Asia tropis dan subtropis. Nama ilmiah Canavalia lineata diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Carl Peter Thunberg pada tahun 1825.
