Carex brunnescens merupakan tumbuhan menahun dari famili Cyperaceae (suku teki-tekian). Spesies ini memiliki kebiasaan membentuk rimpang atau stolon. Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim sedang di wilayah belahan bumi utara yang beriklim sedang . Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan brownish sedge. Nama ilmiah Carex brunnescens diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Christiaan Hendrik Persoon pada tahun 1813.
