Carex scoparia merupakan tumbuhan menahun dari famili Cyperaceae (suku teki-tekian). Spesies ini memiliki kebiasaan membentuk rimpang atau stolon. Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim sedang dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Kanada hingga Amerika Serikat. Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan broom sedge. Nama ilmiah Carex scoparia pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Christian Schkuhr pada tahun 1805.
