Carex ursina merupakan tumbuhan menahun dari famili Cyperaceae (suku teki-tekian). Spesies ini memiliki kebiasaan membentuk rimpang atau stolon. Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim sedang di wilayah Subarctic. Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan bear sedge. Nama ilmiah Carex ursina diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Chester Dewey pada tahun 1835.
