Castanopsis echinocarpa merupakan tumbuhan berbentuk pohon dari famili Fagaceae. Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis basah dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Himalaya tengah hingga China. Nama ilmiah Castanopsis echinocarpa pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Friedrich Anton Wilhelm Miquel pada tahun 1863.
