Cenchrus distachyus merupakan tumbuhan menahun dari famili Poaceae (suku rumput-rumputan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis kering dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Meksiko hingga Amerika tengah. Nama ilmiah Cenchrus distachyus pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Eugène Pierre Nicolas Fournier pada tahun 2010.
