Cestrum ovale merupakan tumbuhan berbentuk perdu dari famili Solanaceae (suku terong-terongan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis kering di wilayah Brazil selatan. Nama ilmiah Cestrum ovale diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Otto Sendtner pada tahun 1935.
