Kemuning merupakan tumbuhan dari famili Rutaceae (suku jeruk-jerukan). Nama ilmiah Chalcas exotica diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Charles Frederick Millspaugh pada tahun 1895. Nama spesies ini merupakan sinonim dari Murraya paniculata.
