Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim subtropis di wilayah California (San Benito County tenggara, Monterey County). Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan san benito spineflower. Nama ilmiah Chorizanthe biloba var. immemora pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis James Lauritz Reveal pada tahun 1989.
