Chrysopogon polyphyllus merupakan tumbuhan menahun dari famili Poaceae (suku rumput-rumputan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis basah dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari India barat dan selatan hingga Myanmar. Nama ilmiah Chrysopogon polyphyllus pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Eduard Hackel pada tahun 1928.
