Cleistogenes squarrosa merupakan tumbuhan menahun dari famili Poaceae (suku rumput-rumputan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim sedang dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Eropa timur hingga Temp. Asia. Nama ilmiah Cleistogenes squarrosa pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Carl Bernhard von Trinius pada tahun 1934.
