Cola coccinea merupakan tumbuhan dari famili Malvaceae (suku kapas-kapasan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis kering di wilayah RD Kongo. Nama ilmiah Cola coccinea diperkenalkan oleh Heinrich Gustav Adolf Engler pada tahun 1912.
