Coptis japonica var. major merupakan tumbuhan menahun dari famili Ranunculaceae. Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim sedang di wilayah Jepang (Honshu, Shikoku). Nama ilmiah Coptis japonica var. major diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Friedrich Anton Wilhelm Miquel pada tahun 1949.
