Costus scaber merupakan tumbuhan dari famili Costaceae. Spesies ini memiliki kebiasaan membentuk akar rimpang. Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis basah dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Meksiko hingga kawasan tropis Amerika. Nama ilmiah Costus scaber diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Hipólito Ruiz López pada tahun 1798.
