Croton buxifolius merupakan tumbuhan berbentuk perdu dari famili Euphorbiaceae (suku kastuba-kastubaan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis kering dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Brazil (Bahia hingga Rio Grande do Sul). Nama ilmiah Croton buxifolius pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Henri Ernest Baillon pada tahun 1866.
