Croton californicus merupakan tumbuhan perdu atau perdu kecil dari famili Euphorbiaceae (suku kastuba-kastubaan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim subtropis dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Amerika Serikat barat daya hingga Meksiko utara dan barat. Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan california croton. Nama ilmiah Croton californicus pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Johannes Müller Argoviensis pada tahun 1866.
