Croton ferrugineus merupakan tumbuhan berbentuk perdu dari famili Euphorbiaceae (suku kastuba-kastubaan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis basah dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Amerika Selatan bagian barat hingga Brazil bagian utara. Nama ilmiah Croton ferrugineus pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Carl Sigismund Kunth pada tahun 1817.
