Cuscuta africana merupakan tumbuhan holoparasit dari famili Convolvulaceae (suku kangkung-kangkungan) yang siklus hidupnya selesai hanya dalam satu musim (annual). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim subtropis di wilayah Provinsi Cape. Nama ilmiah Cuscuta africana diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Carl Ludwig von Willdenow pada tahun 1798.
