Cuscuta occidentalis merupakan tumbuhan holoparasit dari famili Convolvulaceae (suku kangkung-kangkungan) yang siklus hidupnya selesai hanya dalam satu musim (annual). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim sedang dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Amerika Serikat bagian barat hingga Meksiko barat laut. Nama ilmiah Cuscuta occidentalis diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Charles Frederick Millspaugh pada tahun 1923.
