Cyperus afrovaricus merupakan tumbuhan menahun dari famili Cyperaceae (suku teki-tekian). Spesies ini memiliki kebiasaan membentuk rimpang atau stolon. Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis kering di wilayah Tanzania. Nama ilmiah Cyperus afrovaricus diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Kaare Arnstein Lye pada tahun 1983.
