Cyperus arenarius merupakan tumbuhan menahun dari famili Cyperaceae (suku teki-tekian). Spesies ini memiliki kebiasaan membentuk rimpang atau stolon. Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma gurun pasir atau sabana kering. Nama ilmiah Cyperus arenarius pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Anders Johan Retzius pada tahun 1786.
