Cyperus laetus merupakan tumbuhan menahun dari famili Cyperaceae (suku teki-tekian). Spesies ini memiliki kebiasaan membentuk rimpang atau stolon. Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis kering dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Peru hingga Brazil. Nama ilmiah Cyperus laetus pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Jan Svatopluk Presl pada tahun 1828.
