Cyperus xanthostachyus merupakan tumbuhan menahun dari famili Cyperaceae (suku teki-tekian). Spesies ini memiliki kebiasaan membentuk rimpang atau stolon. Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim subtropis. Nama ilmiah Cyperus xanthostachyus diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Ernst Gottlieb von Steudel pada tahun 1842.
