Dactyloctenium australe merupakan tumbuhan menahun dari famili Poaceae (suku rumput-rumputan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis kering dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Kenya, Afrika Selatan, Madagaskar, hingga Mascarenes. Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan durban grass. Nama ilmiah Dactyloctenium australe pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Ernst Gottlieb von Steudel pada tahun 1854.
