Datura discolor merupakan tumbuhan semusim dari famili Solanaceae (suku terong-terongan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim subtropis dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Amerika Serikat barat-tengah hingga Honduras. Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan desert thorn-apple. Nama ilmiah Datura discolor diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Johann Jacob Bernhardi pada tahun 1833.
