Dendropemon purpureus merupakan tumbuhan hemiparasit dari famili Loranthaceae. Spesies ini memiliki kebiasaan tumbuh menempel pada batang pohon lain (epifit). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis basah dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Bahama hingga Kuba dan Puerto Rico. Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan smooth leechbush. Nama ilmiah Dendropemon purpureus pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Karl (Carl) Wilhelm Leopold Krug pada tahun 1897.
