Desmodium coloniense merupakan tumbuhan dari famili Fabaceae (suku polong-polongan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim subtropis di wilayah Meksiko (Chihuahua). Nama ilmiah Desmodium coloniense diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Marcus Eugene Jones pada tahun 1908.
