Desmodium procumbens merupakan tumbuhan berbentuk perdu kecil dari famili Fabaceae (suku polong-polongan) yang memiliki siklus hidup semusim (annual). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis kering di kawasan tropis dan subtropis Amerika . Dalam bahasa Inggris tumbuhan ini dikenal dengan sebutan western trailing ticktrefoil. Nama ilmiah Desmodium procumbens diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Philip Miller pada tahun 1893.
