Dianthera ovata merupakan tumbuhan menahun dari famili Acanthaceae (suku jeruju-jerujuan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim sedang dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Amerika Serikat bagian tengah dan tenggara, Meksiko (Tamaulipas), hingga Kuba. Nama ilmiah Dianthera ovata pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Thomas Walter pada tahun 1788.
