Diospyros californica merupakan tumbuhan berbentuk perdu atau pohon dari famili Ebenaceae. Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma gurun pasir atau sabana kering di wilayah Meksiko (Baja California selatanSur). Nama ilmiah Diospyros californica pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Townshend Stith Brandegee pada tahun 1924.
