Dolichos schweinfurthii merupakan tumbuhan menahun dari famili Fabaceae (suku polong-polongan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim tropis kering dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari kawasan tropis Afrika bagian barat hingga Ethiopia dan Tanzania. Nama ilmiah Dolichos schweinfurthii diperkenalkan oleh seorang botanis bernama Paul Hermann Wilhelm Taubert pada tahun 1894.
