Echinocactus platyacanthus merupakan tumbuhan sukulen berbentuk perdu atau semak dari famili Cactaceae (suku kaktus-kaktusan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma gurun pasir atau sabana kering dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Meksiko (Nuevo León hingga Oaxaca). Nama ilmiah Echinocactus platyacanthus pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Johann Heinrich Friedrich Link pada tahun 1827.
