Echinops echinatus merupakan tumbuhan semusim dari famili Asteraceae (suku aster-asteran). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim subtropis dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari anak benua India hingga Myanmar. Nama ilmiah Echinops echinatus pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis William Roxburgh pada tahun 1832.
