Echinops nanus merupakan tumbuhan menahun dari famili Asteraceae (suku aster-asteran). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim sedang dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Afghanistan hingga Mongolia. Nama ilmiah Echinops nanus pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Alexander Andrejewitsch von Bunge pada tahun 1863.
