Echinops ritro subsp. ruthenicus merupakan tumbuhan menahun dari famili Asteraceae (suku aster-asteran). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim sedang dengan rentang sebaran mulai dari Eropa tengah hingga Xinjiang. Nama ilmiah Echinops ritro subsp. ruthenicus pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Friedrich August Marschall von Bieberstein pada tahun 1879.
