Eleutherococcus brachypus merupakan tumbuhan berbentuk perdu dari famili Araliaceae (suku mangkok-mangkokan). Tumbuhan ini berasal dari bioma beriklim sedang di wilayah China utara. Nama ilmiah Eleutherococcus brachypus pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh botanis Hermann Harms pada tahun 1927.
